Art Department Internship

The Unemployed Philosophers Guild seeks applications from current design students and early-career designers for our summer art department internship.

About The Unemployed Philosophers Guild
For more than 30 years, The Unemployed Philosophers Guild has made smart and funny gifts for smart and funny people out of our Ivory Tower. From finger puppets of great thinkers, writers, and artists, to transforming coffee mugs, to clever stationery, our catalog comprises dozens of categories and hundreds of products. Dates & Compensation
• June 16 – Aug 6 (8 weeks total, start/end dates flexible)
• 3 days/week (Mon, Tues, Wed)
• $27/hr ($5184 total stipend, less applicable taxes and deductions)

Responsibilities
• Participate in product brainstorming and development
• Collaborate with the sales department to develop and design promotional materials in a variety of media
• Working closely with art director and senior designer, develop and design at least one product and its packaging

Basic Qualifications
• A strong grasp of the fundamentals of graphic design – including typography, color theory, composition, hierarchy, and gestalt
• A portfolio that demonstrates original conceptual thinking and solid execution
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator & Photoshop especially)
• Curiosity and enthusiasm toward art, literature, science, philosophy, etc.

Bonus Qualifications
• Illustration and/or animation skills
• Proficiency with HTML & CSS
• Familiarity with print production
